Boise, Idaho Organic Cotton, Bamboo Apparel, Home products and Directory
Bamboo textile is one of the softest, most versatile, breathable fabrics available, and also one of the greenest fibers attainable! Bamboo cloth is naturally organic as it is pest resistant, fast growing, requires little water, and is easy to harvest. Depending on type, bamboo can grow up to 100 feet tall, growing as fast as 46” in 24 hours! Bamboo fabric is anti-microbial, anti-fungal, hypo-allergenic, moisture wicking, and is the single most renewable resource available thus far. Not only can we wear bamboo, we use it as shelter, food, medicine, paper, and more.
Bamboo apparel is light-weight and great in all weather conditions. It's the next best thing to going without clothing at all!
Although bamboo is inherently organic and pure, the process to manufacture it can be less than green. The most common and cost effective way to break down bamboo fiber into pulp is chemically through the use of sodium hydroxide, or “caustic soda”, also known as lye. Ways to make this a more responsible practice is using a “closed loop” method, basically recycling and reusing the chemicals continuously. Our manufacturer is also Oeko-tex 100 certified and complies with ISO 9000/ISO 14000 standards. Below are a couple of links with more information on these credentials.
